Mount Isa Safe Community Project

Mount Isa Safe Community is a project to help promote community safety and reduce injury in our City making it a safer place to live, work, study and play.

There are currently several Working Groups involved in this long-term initaitive and more planned:

In addition, a number of local stakeholder groups and organisations have embraced the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Safe Communities model as part of the initiative.

This website has been established as a vital safety information portal for Mount Isa and project action partners. We hope you enjoy reading about the safety initiatives and help us foster a safety culture in our great City.

'Domestic Violence it's in Your Court'

The Mount Isa Family Violence Combined Action Group (MIVFCAG) and its representatives from local service providers have been collaborating and addressing the issues of family and domestic violence through various initiatives.

Senior Safety BBQ

Mount Isa Seniors celebrated Community Safety Month with a barbeque at the Laura Johnson Home on Wednesday 21 October 2009. The BBQ was hosted by Mount Isa Seniors’ Safety (MISS) and the Laura Johnson Home with assistance from the Mount Isa Pensioners Association.

Mental Health Week a success

Mental Health Week which was held in October was a huge success with members of the newly formed North West Queensland Mental Health Network working together to present a series of events. It was excellent to see government and community agencies working together to promote good mental health and help reduce stigma against those with mental illness. The relationships built during the organising of Mental Health Week will last long and lead to better co-ordination of services for our patients and consumers.

Thursday Night Live

The Mount Isa Substance Misuse Action Group and youth agencies contributed to October Community Safety Month by holding thier Thursday Night Live (TNL) at the PCYC on the 22nd of October.
